[CALUG] Has the security of my PC compromised?

Amost certainly not. Both GNOME and KDE are very sensitive about their
dotfiles being messed up, and the documentation is rather obtuse.
I learned this the hard way. I run several differnt Linuxi on the same
box, so I figured that I would use the same home directory on all of
them. Bad Mistake! It turns out that every vendor does something
slightly different, and a change in one system causes the others to lose
panels etc.
What I do now is have a different home directory for each Linux
(/home/rbj/suse, /home/rbj/redhat, etc) and use symlinks to manage my
dotfiles. It keeps my "home" directory (/home/rbj) clean as well.
