[CALUG] Has the security of my PC compromised?

Strange thing happened yesterday. The Gnome panel in Ubuntu at the bottom
that has the Windows Panel (for toggling between applications) and the "show
desktop ikon" has disappeared. And this morning, I had two icons of
Evolution on the top panel instead of one. Does anyone think that the
security of my PC been compromised? If so, what's the best way to fix this?
