Well, I have a long memory, but the original "Lex & Yacc" book was 
rather lame too. I even got a post from Tim O himself acknowledging that 
fact and promising a new edition back in the early 90s.

I tend to gravitate towards O'Reilly books myself, but these days I 
always look for an alternative. While most of them are pretty good and 
cover most of the bases, some of them seem like they are cranked out by 
a factory. Often times other books on the subject will be more insightful.
