Dave,
Unless, you have a really really good reason, business or personal, I would
never suggest upgrade. Best thing to do is to wipe the partitions clean and
do a fresh install. I used to try upgrade as I had Intel C++ compiler and
did not want to lose the config, But that just kept me up all night
trouble-shooting the issues with the upgrade.

Since then, I have switched to Xandros desktop and I no longer have to
trouble shoot upgrade issues. Xandros Networks lets me know that there are
application updated and I just click one button, "install all updates" and I
come back in 20 minutes and it is all done. Of course upgrading kernel is a
different thing. They do not come out with a new kernel very often. Since I
use my Linux as my primary desktop, I do not intend to keep upgrading, so I
am fine.

The other best part of Xandros is that I can install both rpm and deb pkgs
right off the menu and not worry about missing library files, since XN
downloads any missing libs and installs them too.

But if you are a developer and want to try out all the latest, cutting edge
software, then you should go with RH or SELS, they are good for messing
around.

Good luck
