[CALUG] Best programming app

Well, you've given me the courage to make my first
"contribution" to the LUG. I too am a long-time
Windows user making the transition to Linux. Having
built an entire career around Visual Basic I was
somewhat adrift in this new environment. Then I
stumbled across Gambas (Gambas Almost Means Basic).
While I've only just progressed past the "Hello World"
stage, I'm amazed at what you can do. At least I get
to leverage my familiarity with the language toward
building apps on Linux. Its also great at protecting
you from some of the all too common pitfalls of VB6
(On Error Goto...). Try and Catch seems a more nimble
method of error handling. It retains the one big
advantage of VB, rapid application prototyping. If
you're experimenting anyway, you might want to give it
a try.
