I would expect CS graduate work to include a lot of math and theory.
If he doesn't have the background experience in algorithms,
complexity, discrete math, and so on then he might have a lot of
catching up to do.  Granted, I'm thinking in terms of a heavy tech
program like UMCP, and my experience is 10 years out of date.  He'll
obviously need to find out what the school expects in terms of prior
experience and workload.

Are you sure he's not really thinking of an MIS degree?  If
accounting, finance, and the business side of software are his
interest, then MIS might be a better fit.
