In Debian land, you can use "nullmailer" or "ssmtp" to satisfy the
mail-transport-agent virtual package requirement, and the mail will be
forwarded to the smarthost that you specify. Not sure what distribution
of Linux you are using or if there is an analog in other dists.
If you can be more specific as to what distribution you are using and
what MTA you are using (if you have a preference), someone can probably
be more helpful. There's lots of reference material on the web for this
sort of thing, you're far from the first person to ask!
