The sheer volume of reserve cells negates the limit of write cycles
on any particular cell or group of cells. "Fixed" might have been
the wrong choice of words, but the point is that concerns surrounding
routine writes to CF are simply not realized with "modern" flash media.
P.S. I'm not suggesting anyone build a compile farm off discarded
Soekris/WRAP boxen and PNY CF media. If you're already sending your
syslog to a central logging server (which you should be), how much I/
O do you really expect these systems to suffer anyways?
