This won't help you, but I've been looking at the same problem with 
software RAID.  I haven't been able to find anything on the RH site.  Do 
you have the link you mentioned that explains the software RAID solution 
for this?

On your question, I agree with David.  If it's real hardware RAID, the 
operating system isn't aware of what's going on and will only see a 
single disk.  Any solution will need to come from the RAID controller.
