The Columbia, Maryland Linux Users Group (CALUG) will meet on
Wednesday, October 12th at 7:00 PM at our /training/etc location at
7150 Riverwood Drive, Suite J, Columbia, Md 21046.

The topic of the meeting will be: "Using tb-sshdfilter to Thwart
Automated ssh Attacks" presented by Eric Smith and Robert Burgoyne of
True Blade Systems, Inc.

Brute force ssh break-in attempts using automated programs in an
attempt to secure shell access to a Linux system are commonplace. If
you study the logfiles of nearly any Linux system exposed to the
Internet you will often see hundreds or even thousands of break-in
attempts each week.

An existing program, sshdfilter, attempts to solve this problem. Eric
Smith studied sshdfilter and determined that a new solution was
required to address his clients' requirements. tb-sshdfilter is a new
program, written in Python, which attempts to provide a more flexible
and robust solution.

tb-sshdfilter will be released to the general public at the same time
as the CALUG meeting under the GPL license.
