Would setting up a news alert help? http://www.google.com/alerts?hl=en

Subject: [CALUG] Google search

Is there a program or a way that I could go to
news.Google.com<http://news.google.com/>on a daily basis and search for
some keywords and tell me how many stories are there and dump it into a
text file?

I am working on a project is to find out what kind of traction "Open
Source", GPL and GNU/Linux are getting in the media, which countries are
taking the initiative and which distributions are becoming popular in
the mainstream.

Right now, I do it manually and put down the results in Gnumeric. That's
real cumbersome and takes close to 15 minutes a day since I do more than
20 searches.

 Thanks,

Rajiv
